Kick and Prance for Children in Need
The collecting tins are out, ovens across the country are full of cakes and everyone is covered in polkadots or bear paws because it’s Children in Need 2013! After breaking all the records last year by raising over £42 million for projects to support children and young people throughout Britain, the BBC are putting on their dancing shoes, stripping off their make-up, routing out their pyjamas and pedalling hard, to try and do one better. On Friday 15th November therefore, Terry Wogan, Tess Daly, Fearne Cotton, Zoe Ball and Nick Grimshaw will once again be hosting the Appeal show, which promises to be full of celebrities singing, dancing and generally making themselves look ridiculous.
Last year the Appeal show alone raised £26,757,466 for Children in Need and here at Dancewear Central we are convinced that it was mainly down to Strictly star Russell Grant shaking and shimmying. Dance is due to play an important role in this year’s programme yet again. Strictly Come Dancing will once again be putting on an extravaganza of heel kicks and glitter with the help of ITV’s Dancing on Ice stars Torvil and Dean. The 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics ice dancing gold medallists will be going head to head to try and win the Pudsey glitterball. With the help of Strictly Professionals James Jordan and Aliona Vilani they have a week to learn their routine before taking to the ballroom and performing at the Appeal show.
Strictly won’t be the only ones Cha-Cha-ing for the children. In the first ever Children in Need special to be broadcasted live from Albert Square, the cast of Eastenders will Kick and Prance to raise money. From Bollywood to Ballroom they will be dancing past the Queen Vic- so make sure you donate!
It’s not too late for you to get involved and put on your dancing shoes. You can download a fundraising pack from the BBC and then hold a dance-a-thon or plan disco. Children-in-Need has already raised hundreds of pounds this year but there is still time to point your toes and wiggle your hips to help them achieve another record.
