Flash Mob: The Fate of Our Favourite TV Twinkle Toes

Stacey MacNaught |

On May 27th Flash Mob returned to the West End opening its UK tour at the Sadler’s Wells’ Peacock Theatre. From ‘Latin to lockin’’ and ‘Celtic to contemporary’ this show will bring a fusion of different dancing styles to audiences throughout Britain.

After making its début to wide acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Flash Mob completed a hugely successful three week run at the Peacock Theatre in 2012. Now it is back for a much anticipated second season. This summer however, Flash Mob’s fabulous production will be joining forces with the stars of our favourite TV dance programme for a dynamic performance.

In recent years dance reality TV shows have played a significant role in heightening the profile of different dancing disciplines. Indeed a nationwide survey conducted by YouGov found that 1 in 5 British adults (21%) have become interested in dancing as a result of TV dance shows. Many of our telly favourites however, seem to disappear off the radar as soon as the show has come to an end. This year Flash Mob has tapped this previously unexploited source, ‘providing a platform for the amazing talent that has emerged from TV dance shows’. Amongst the star-studded cast will be Tommy Franzén So You Think You Can Dance (2010) runner-up, Alleviate and Brosena from Got to Dance, Flawless Britain’s Got Talent (2009) finalists and Strictly favourite ‘Kevin from Grimsby’ with his fiancé and dance partner Karen Hauer. From the small screen to the stage Flash Mob has proved there is life after TV for our much beloved stars, as well as introducing audiences to a wide range of dancing disciplines. Flash Mob will be at the Sadler’s Wells’ Peacock Theatre until June 8th when it moves to the Lowry, Salford, on June 11th. It will then continue touring throughout June and July finishing at Darlington Civic Theatre on August 2nd.
