Finding a Dance School
Dancing is a great way for your child to get active, have fun and meet other children. Choosing the right dance school can be a big decision and you might not know where to start! We have put together a list of points for you to consider:
Ask around – Have a chat with other parents who have children at a local dance school, a school that comes highly recommended is a good start!
Qualifications - Make sure the dance teachers have the relevant professional qualifications and are accredited by dance faculties such as RAD (Royal Academy of Dancing) or ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing).Teaching qualifications not only ensure a high level of dance will be taught but also the staff are knowledgeable in their field and will also be aware of things like child development, health & safety and evaluation.
Trial class - Ask if you can observe a class in action or if your child can join in a trial class. This way your child can get a true feel for the school and their new hobby; before you commit to a full term.
Extra Costs - As well as class fees, ask if there are any extra costs involved such as uniform costs, examinations fees and costume fees for any end of year production.
Opportunities – Apart from the weekly dance classes, there may be other opportunities such as taking part in dance festivals, competitions, exams, school productions, local pantomimes etc. Dancing may be a hobby now but your little ballerina may one day choose dance as a career!
