Dance Proms 2013
Later this year hundreds of young dancers from all over the world will perform an original piece of choreography on the stage of the Royal Albert Hall for the next Dance Proms on 3 November 2013. More than 450 young dancers took part in 2012, with the project organisers hoping 2013 will be bigger and better than ever.
Dance Proms is a partnership project which began in 2011 between three of the world’s leading dance training and awarding bodies, The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), The International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA), The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) working together to create a fantastic celebration of dance.
Dance Proms starts as an online Virtual Dance Festival. Engaging with dance teachers and their students from around the world. Students between the ages of 5 and 21 video their original dance pieces using any style of dance and upload them to the website. Technology is used to bring teachers, students and the public together, encouraging the sharing of ideas and experiences and the opportunity to interact with respected dance professionals and high-profile dance names. It also allows the wider public to engage with and shape the project by offering an online public voting element. This then leads to the live performance, with a variety of acts selected by a panel of professionals to be included in the Dance Proms performance at the iconic venue.
From Ballet to Ballroom, from Tap to Tango – whether you are a dancer, dance teacher or dance enthusiast, there promises to be something for everyone!
