Dance Used to Educate Children at Multi Cultural Festival

Six schools from the Basingstoke area enjoyed a treat at a recent multi-cultural festival when 130 of their students were given five hours of professional dance tuition.

The chosen pupils were offered dance classes by the Salisbury based dance school, WiseMoves Dance Company. The school children were taught Bollywood, Chinese Dancing, Samba Fusion, African, Hip Hop and Street Dance. They then showed off their moves in a show for parents and teachers.
This is just another example of yet another application of dance. Here, the diversity of dance was used to educate children on cultural differences in an animated, fun and engaging way.

It was a roaring success, with organiser, Mark Wright, commenting that;
“The feedback was phenomenal. We are hoping next year to do something even bigger and better. It’s important in a community such as Winklebury to bring everyone together.”

The hope is that the success of this year’s event could open it up to become an annual thing. Let’s hope so... yet another wonderful yearly event on the dance calendar.
